Indigo White, Selected Poems, Rainer Hesse, hardcover, 166 pages, 25€
Rainer Hesse was born in Königsberg/East Prussia in 1938. Early inclination for chemistry and languages. Chemistry as a bread-and-butter profession; philosophy, languages and literature as a balance. He spent most of his working life as an analyst and head of department in an international pharmaceutical company. In addition to monographic publications of poems, regular participation in anthologies and individual publications in various verse forms. Preference for Japanese poetry forms. Literary translator from Flemish and Dutch (Bart Mesotten, Luc Vanderhaeghen, Herman Van Rompuy, Marc May, etc.). Deeply committed to the European idea, he is a Dutch and German citizen. He lived in Amsterdam from 2000 to 2018. Today he lives in Hamburg.
Rüdiger Jung, pastor and poet -
Rainer Hesse is a convinced European - against the pettiness of historical nationalisms. As a poet, however, the proven expert on Far Eastern writing systems is at home in Tanga, Wake or Uta - haiku plays a minor role in his work (albeit one that should be noted). Many of his poems have an explicit poetological character.
